Used car price history

What a car was listed for before tells you what it's really worth now.

Where price history comes from

Every time a dealer lists a car, the asking price, mileage and photos are captured. Joined up by registration, they form the car's price history: each listing, how long it sat, and every cut.

What to look for

  • Repeated cuts: the dealer is struggling to sell, so you have room to negotiate.
  • Long time on sale: compare it with how fast similar cars sell locally.
  • Re-listed higher: the same car back on sale for more, often after a trade between dealers.
  • Short gaps between owners: a car that keeps changing hands deserves questions.

Using it to negotiate

Quote the facts, not a feeling: "It was £15,495 in June and similar cars nearby are £13,650." Dealers respond to evidence.
