How to negotiate a used car price

The best haggle is a number you can prove.

1. Know the market value

Find what the same model at similar mileage sells for near the seller. That's your anchor.

2. Know how long it's been for sale

If similar cars sell in 31 days and this one has sat for 52, the seller is motivated.

3. Make one clear offer

Offer slightly above the market value and show your evidence. Example: "Similar cars sell for £13,650 locally and this one has been listed 52 days. Would you take £13,800?"

4. Be ready to walk

There are always other cars. Walking away politely is often what gets the call back.
